Abstract: Acute and critically ill patients are prone to various acid-base metabolism disorders, which seriously affect the patient's quality of life. Timely monitoring of acid-base balance parameters is very important for assessing the patient's condition. Traditional blood gas and biochemical indicators are often biased in the diagnosis of complex acid-base metabolism disorders, which is not conducive to accurate assessment of the disease. Strong ion gap is a new indicator of acid-base metabolism disorder proposed by foreign scholars in recent years. It is not easily affected by respiratory acidosis, respiratory alkalosis and drugs. The measurement result is relatively stable, and it can be used for the diagnosis of critically ill patients. Clinical treatment provides important reference value, which can accurately assess the prognosis of patients. Therefore, this article reviews the current research progress of strong ion gap in acute and critical illness.
