Abstract: Objective To establish a closed-loop system for monitoring the quality of specimen collection and explore its application effectiveness. Methods Five potential failure links were predicted by healthcare failure mode and effect analysis, and a closed-loop system for specimen collection quality monitoring was constructed and optimized with the cooperation of interdisciplinary teams. The qualified rate of specimen collection and inspection before and after the application of the system were compared. Results After comparison, the error rates for patient identification during specimen collection, specimen collection methods, specimen tube selection, missed issuance, and late delivery all decreased. Conclusion The closed-loop system of specimen collection quality monitoring based on medical failure mode and effect analysis can effectively improve the quality of specimen collection, standardize the nursing workflow, reduce the occurrence of adverse events.
