Abstract: Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety of intramuscular ziprasidone combined with clonazepam in the treatment of agitation of schizophrenia. Methods 80 cases with agitation of schizophrenia patients were randomly divided into 2 groups, were treated with intramuscular ziprasidone combined with clonazepam and haloperidol. The evaluating indicators include the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) score, behavior rating scale (BARS) and BPRS agitated symptoms subscale scores; Also include Simpson–Angus extrapyramidal side effects Rating Scale. Results From baseline to endpoint the subject BPRS agitation symptoms subscale score reduced more than 30%(>30%) was judged to be effective. The effective subjects of ziprasidone group was 37 cases (92.5%), and 32 cases in haloperidol group (80%).The two groups had no signiifcant difference (χ2=2.635, P=0.193). The extrapyramidal side effects occur in ziprasidone group was 1 cases (2.5%) less than haloperidol group of 14 cases (35%) (χ2=13.767, P<0.001). Conclusion Intramuscular ziprasidone combined with clonazepam in the treatment of agitation of schizophrenia is as efficacy as haloperidol, the extrapyramidal side effects is less than that of haloperidol.
