Abstract: Objective To study the effects of intravenous immunoglobulin in children with severe hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD). Methods The medical records of 59 children with severe hand-foot-mouth disease were reviewed. Children with intravenous immunoglobul in therapy were selected as treatment group,the others as control group. Effects of two groups were compared. Results Pyretolysis time, the skin rash regression time, the nervous system symptoms disappeard time, and hospital stays in treatment group were (4.52±1.41)d, (6.35±1.93)d, (4.06±1.25)d, (9.94±2.14)d, respectively, in control group were (5.78±1.12)d, (8.03±2.74)d, (5.53±1.50)d, (11.31±2.05)d, respectively. They were shorter in treatment group than that in control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Intravenous immunoglobulin was safe and effective in children with severe hand-foot-mouth disease.
