Abstract: Postoperative delirium(POD)is characterized by decreased attention, consciousness and cognitive disorders and perceptual disorders. It tends to occur in elderly patients, and is closely related to prolonged hospital stay, increased economic burden, reduced quality of life and increased postoperative mortality. At present, the pathophysiology and pathogenesis of POD have not been fully defined, and there are no effective biological and clinical indicators, which affects the early diagnosis and prevention of POD to a certain extent. This paper reviews the pathogenesis of POD in recent years in order to have a clearer understanding of POD from the physiological mechanism and provide more effective methods for the prevention and treatment of POD in clinic.
