Abstract: Objective To explore the application and teaching effects of standardized patients in clinical probation of ophthalmology. Methods Using the real patients serves as SP in the teaching of ophthalmology, the clinical students were divided into four groups: group A(traditional teaching group),group B(SP+LBL),group C(SP+PBL)and group D(SP+CBL).At the end of the internship, the students' satisfaction and teaching effects were compared in four groups after statistical analysis were made, according to the scores of students' evaluation, practical skills and the theoretical examination. Results The scores of students' evaluation from high to low was group D,C,B and A(P< 0.05 ).The scores of group D were the highest which were higher than the other 3 groups(P<0.05),and the group C was higher than that of group B and A(P< 0.05). However, there was no difference between the group B and A(P>0.05).Conclusion It is easier for students to accept the use of real patients as SP in teaching ophthalmology. SP is an excellent teaching method combining theory with practice, which is worth popularizing.
