Abstract: Objective To evaluate the feasibility of the practice programme for upright positions in the second stage of labour. Methods The practice programme for upright positions in the second stage of labour was implemented in the birth position management in a tertiary hospital in Hebei province. The feasibility analysis was conducted by assessing maternal participation and compliance, cost input, experience and suggestions of midwives, obstetricians, and parturients. Results For maternal participation and compliance, a total of 20 parturients were recruited, and 16 of which agreed to participate in this study. Twelve parturients completed the whole study. In terms of cost input, midwives spent less time attending to parturients, the demand for midwifery human resources was relatively high, and the equipment and materials could meet the needs. As for experience and suggestions of midwives and obstetricians, the implementation process was feasible, and the practice programme was well accepted. However, some contents needed to be refined, and the content and form of the training program needed to be improved. For maternal experience and suggestions, the implementation can improve childbirth experience, and parturients accepted the use of upright positions. However, the education on upright positions should be available for more pregnant women. Conclusion The feasibility of this practice programme in preliminary application is good.
