Efficacy and safety analysis of ultrapulsed fractional CO2 laser combined with photorejuvenation in the treatment of facial atrophic acne scars

Abstract: Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of ultrapulsed fractional CO2 laser combined with photorejuvenation for the treatment of facial atrophic acne scars.Methods Sixty patients with acne scars from the Department of Dermatology, Affiliated Hospital of Hebei University were randomly assigned to a CO2 laser group and a combination treatment group, with 30 patients in each. The CO2 laser group received ultrapulsed fractional CO2 laser treatment once every 3 months for a total of 5 sessions. The combination treatment group received the same ultrapulsed fractional CO2 laser treatment, and one month after each laser session, photorejuvenation treatment was added, completing a total of 5 combined treatment cycles.Results The marked improvement rate in the combination group(70.00%)was significantly higher than that in the CO2 laser group(36.67%)(P=0.011), and the combination therapy demonstrated superior pain relief(P=0.007). Subgroup analysis showed that the combination approach led to greater improvement of icepick and rolling scars compared with the control group. The total effective rate exceeded 90% in both groups, and no serious adverse events were observed.Conclusion Ultrapulsed fractional CO2 laser combined with photorejuvenation is a safe and effective treatment strategy, particularly suitable for icepick and rolling types of atrophic acne scars.
