Main effect factors of psychosomatic symptoms of medical students

Abstract: Objective To know the psychosomatic symptoms and the main effect factors of the mental health of medical students. Methods 947 medical students were investigated, Symptom Check List 90 (SCL-90), Coping Styles Questionnaire(CSQ) and Self-made General Data Questionnaire(SMGDQ) were used. Results 41.65%of them had mild or worse psychosomatic symptoms. 7.40%of them had moderate or worse psychosomatic symptoms. Only 4 students had severe psychosomatic symptoms, making up 0.42%of all students. Compulsion, interpersonal sensitivity, depression were the most common psychosomatic symptoms. Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that, good relationship with classmates, good health condition, broad interests, father with high education degree, good relationship with mother, good health condition of father and high grade were protective factors of mental health, while drinking history, smoking history, bad class atmosphere were risk factors of mental health. Conclusion Some of the medical students have psychosomatic symptoms in different degree, and interpersonal relationship, health condition, drinking history, smoking history, broad interests or not, class atmosphere are the most inlfuential factors.
