Abstract: As a hormone secreted by white fat cells, leptin acts as a peripheral signal linking adipose tissue and the central nervous system networks, affecting feeding, energy balance, endocrine and immune functions. Through the analysis and summary of molecular structure and intracellular distribution of leptin and its receptor(LEPR), the recent developments on the regulation of lipid metabolism, inflammation and immunity, wound healing and tumor development are reviewed.
