Abstract: Objective To investigate the incidence and influencing factors of fever after modified electroconvulsive therapy in male psychiatric patients. Methods Data of 231 patients with mental disorders who had received and completed modified electroconvulsive therapy in a mental hospital in Beijing, and then gathered data using a self-made date collection table. Results Among the 231 patients, 34 patients had fever(14.72%)after electroconvulsive therapy. Those 34 patients had fever for 53 times in total, low-grade 19 times(35.85%), moderate fever 23 times(43.40%), high fever 11 times(20.75%). After comparing between febrile patients and the non-febrile patients, it found that difference between two variables of age(t=4.007, P<0.01)and course of disease(P=0.016)were statistically significant, and there were statistical differences between different age groups(χ2=20.992, P<0.01).Conclusion Fever will occur in some patients after modified electroconvulsive therapy, especially in patients with small age and short course of disease, and most of them are transient fever, mainly low-fever and moderate fever.
