Abstract: Hypertension is a multi-factor disease with unknown etiology and serious complications. Due to the complexity of this disease, the pathogenesis of most patients with essential hypertension is still unknown. A large body of evidence shows that the purinoceptor signaling pathway plays a key role in a variety of diseases and constitutes a ubiquitous intercellular communication system. Almost all purinoceptors are expressed on the cells of the cardiovascular system. Some purine receptor subtypes has been confirmed in blood pressure regulation according to the existing research results and conjectures, but the knowledge is still limited. With the increasing understanding of the pathophysiology of purinoceptors, purine receptor compounds are also being developed for the treatment of hypertension. Therefore, the article summarizes the effects of purinoceptors on blood pressure and the latest research developments.
