Abstract: Objective To investigate the relationship between peripheral blood pressure and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity(baPWV)in middle-aged and old population. Methods A total of 5 852 participants was selected with stratified random sampling from the 101 510 workers of Tangshan Kailuan company who received the health examination. 4 937 participants with integral data were in accordance with the inclusion criteria(age of 40+ years without history of stroke and coronary heart disease)and were recruited into the survey. Multivariate linear regression analysis was used to analyze the influence of peripheral blood pressure on baPWV. Results(1)Among 4 937 participants(2 959 men and 1 978 women)with an average age of 51.24 years old, their mean of SBP, DBP, MAP and PP were(126.93±19.34)mmHg,(81.19±10.92)mmHg,(96.44±12.88)mmHg and(45.78±13.20 )mmHg, respectively. Mean baPWV was(1 578.02±391.76)cm/s and was greater in man than women(P<0.001).(2)baPWV were positively related to SBP, DBP, MAP and PP, were 0.501, 0.269, 0.403 and 0.508, respectively(all P<0.001).(3)Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that after adjusting for age and other risk factors, for 1 SD of peripheral systolic BP SBP, DBP, MAP and PP, baPWV increased 91.59(82.12~101.06)cm/s, 59.57(50.68~68.46)cm/s, 78.62(69.48~87.76)cm/s and 77.15(67.51~86.80)cm/s, respectively(all P<0.001).(4)The results were consistent after stratified by sex and age. Conclusion Higher SBP, DBP, MAP and PP are positively associated with increasing baPWV in middle-aged and old population.
